Community & Economic Development Director

The Village of Mukwonago (pop. 8,262) a vibrant, historic community seeks experienced candidates to apply for the newly created position of Community & Economic Development Director.  Candidates must be extremely knowledgeable in modern community development issues and trends, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have demonstrated experience with team building techniques and consensus management. The community will welcome candidates who excel at mentoring and developing their staff. 

The position of Community & Economic Development Director serves as the Planner for the Village and has direct departmental oversight to organize, coordinate and direct the activities of four employees in Land Use (Planning & Zoning), Building Inspection, Economic Development, Community Development and Property Maintenance activities. The position is appointed by and reports to the Village Administrator.  The selected candidate must understand all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with the assigned duties while simultaneously developing new policies and procedures for the Community & Economic Development Department.  The Department provides support to the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Downtown Development Committee, and the Historic Preservation Commission.

The ideal candidate will be a leader of high integrity, collaborative, interpersonal and leadership skills, strategic-thinking professional, with planning and economic development skills, must be innovative in problem-solving, strong organizational skills, team building and the ability to promote positive and productive relationships with staff. Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex technical information to any audience.  

 

Education and Experience

Minimum education should include a bachelor’s degree in public administration, municipal planning or related field.  A master’s degree is preferred.  Five to ten years of increasingly responsible municipal management experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skill and abilities.  American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification desired.  This position requires a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license. 

Compensation and Benefits : 

The salary range is $74,829 – $101,020, +/- DOQ.  A comprehensive benefits package includes participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System, deferred compensation match, health insurance coverage (also available to dependents), flexible spending account, and life insurance. The Village also offers paid vacation, personal leave, holidays and sick leave.
