Urban Forestry Corner

Trees are an essential and vital resource. The Urban forest is a very important part to every community. Whether they line our streets, or provide shade in our parks & playgrounds, trees contribute to a better environment for a number of reasons. Trees provide oxygen, and also improve air quality. According to the U.S.D.A. “One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide, and gives back four tons of oxygen”. Enough to meet the needs of eighteen people annually. But that’s not all. Trees are essential in the eco systems in which they reside. With the ability to moderate the effects of the sun, rain, and wind, & provide food, they can also even fight soil erosion. From shading a favorite resting spot, to providing food & shelter for wildlife, trees are an invaluable part of nature, even in an urban setting. In taking good care of our trees, we are essentially taking care of ourselves.
